My PC has started to give this error message:

<<MSINET.ocx or one of its dependancies not correctly regiestered: a file is missing or invalid.>>

I have downloaded the file and saved it in Windows> System32

still does not work.

Any solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance.

MSINET.ocx is an activeX control (MS Internet Transfer Control) dated 09/03/2004

On my various sys, which are 64bit sys, its located in the C:\Widows\Syswow64 folder

If you are able to locate MSINET.ocx in a windows search (and only IF)

    Try;

Start> cmd.exe rt click to run as admin then enter,

    regsvr32 msinet.ocx

Does this err msg appear when you start the PC or only when you use your browser? and if thats the case its likely caused by a browser extension, so try disabling any third party extensions in your browser

You dont download files from unknown scources, and then save to a sys folder, that simply wont work, and is likely to result in an infected PC.

The err msg is being generated by some program you are running or is auto starting on boot.

On the assumption this msg is seen when you boot, follow the procedures outlined here to identify the scource http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Then the problem is with Norton

The system32 folder is where you installed your downloaded file, and presumably what you found is that.

    Hello,

I manually searched the Syswow64 folder, can't find the MSINET file

Auto search does not show it either

However, it is there in the system32 folder

The message appears when I want to use Norton antivirus for scanning drives.

    Really lost

Thanks a lot for the advice.

I did perform the clean boot process.

Unfortunately the error is still there.

I'm unable to find the file from Microsoft either.

    Please advise.
