Today (3/12/16) I opened Turbo Tax, clicked on updates, Turbo Tax gave me an error message, now it won't even open. It had been working for 2 months. Now I can't even access it.  Very upsetting my whole tax return is there!

I can't help with your problem, but I just wanted to point out the following:

Your tax return is *not* in TurboTax. It's in a file on your computer. Worst case, you could copy that file to a thumb drive or CD, take it to the computer of a friend who is successfully running TurboTax, and print it out there.

Windows 7 has the .NET Framework 3.5 and earlier (2.0) redistributables already installed however some application installers are looking for very specific .NET 2.0 files and or registry entires that may not be in the ?Windows 7 versaion of .NET 3.5 (which included .NET 2.0) which can cause error messages:

    Example:

TurboTax 2009 can fail to install because it thinks the .NET Framework is not installed, even when it is

Also you can try the following: How to turn Windows features on or off:

How to check to see if .NET Framework is enabled:

Click Start and in the search enter (without the quotes): "Turn Windows features On or Off".

Next click on the + sign next to the "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1" list of features.

With "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1" expanded place a check mark in both options.

Exit the "Feature" window and reboot your PC.

    Try reinstalling with Administrator privileges:

    Point to the setup files.

Right click the setup file and click 'Troubleshoot compatibility'

Wait while it detects the problem.

Click the option 'Worked in a previous version of Windows'

Select  a known version of Windows the software is compatible with.

    Click Next

Click Start the program, wait while it installs

When installation is complete, click Finish and save the settings.

    See if the program opens.
