    Hi Paul,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Community!

After going through your post, it appears that you need more information to edit lock screen timeout settings.

In-order to edit the lock screen settings, refer the  following.

You can try these steps to change the Lock Screen time.

    a.      Press Windows Key and W key.

    b.      Enter Edit power plan and press enter.

    c.       Click on Change advanced power settings.

    d.      Locate and expand Display.

    e.      Expand Console lock display off timeout.

    f.        Set how many minutes you want, and click/tap on OK.

NOTE: The default time is 1 minute. Setting this to 0 (zero) minutes will set the display to never turn off from the lock screen.

Hope this information helps you. Please do let us know if you need any assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

No matter what I do the lock screen settings don't change, it locks way too soon while I'm trying to work!

Yet again, the Microsoft tech answers with something that doesn't work--then never replies again despite the OP and others saying the solution didn't work.  How is this considered support? And how did he/she have the gall to add "let us know if you have any problems and we'll be glad to assist you" at the end of his/her post--and then never bother to check back when the OP did indeed let them know?

    Ganesh?  Where are you?

Also... why is the thread marked as answered--when the OP clearly said Ganesh's reply did not help and the problem still persisted???  I've had that happened to me too--I pose a question, it gets a terrible "answer" that I immediately identify as inadequate--and the next time I come back, the thread has been mysteriously marked as solved.

Honestly, answers.microsoft.com is worse than useless. It never fails to make an annoying situation infuriating due to the complete lack of follow-up by the so called reps, not to mention their copy-paste answers that rarely have any bearing on the actual question.

This site has become an embarrassment to Microsoft and should be either radically improved or removed completely. No support at all would be better than the incompetent, apathetic support provided here.

I had not thought about this in a while. Gave up. Though your post inspired me to look into this once moore I ended up with no better results. When I expand "Display" I only have "Turn off display after" and "Enable adaptive brightness". No "Console lock display". Would someone at MS please let us PC Home users know if there is a solution to this or is it something we're just going to have to live with?

    I don't have a windows key

You don't need one.   Press Ctrl-Esc.   Then start typing.   That would open the W8 Search charm but results (if any) would appear listed for apps.   In order to see results listed for Settings you would just select the Settings category, e.g. either by click, tap or Tab key on that label below the search input box.

BTW in fact, you do have a Win- key, on your On-Screen Keyboard or your "Standard" Touch Keyboard if you activate it.   However, since we usually rely on a Win- key shortcut to describe how to activate those features too, let's just leave that as a...
