    Hi Rae,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums.

From your description I understand that you want to know how to sync Kindle library with Windows 8, I would suggest you to go through the following information and check if that helps.

Please answer for better understanding of the issue:

Have you installed Kindle app from Windows Store?

Kindle for Windows 8 is a free Kindle reading app for the Windows 8 operating system. With Windows 8, you can use either touch gestures if your device is compatible, or a pointing device (such as a mouse) to navigate the app. With Kindle for Windows 8, you can shop the Kindle Store, download and read Kindle books, sync your furthest page read across devices, and customize your reading experience.

The Kindle app allows you to read your Kindle library on your Windows 8 slate or laptop. And because it uses the Kindle sync service, your library is automatically synced to your device, and you it automatically knows which book you're currently reading, and which page you last got to. So it means you can read on one device, and pick up where you left off on your next one.

    Refer to the link:

    http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/kindle/1d7e4396-0143-4aed-8892-84eb75e799f3

Try to sync. In the Kindle app, tap Cloud and then swipe down from the top of the screen. Tap Sync and see if the list of books in the Cloud changes.

If this doesn't fix the problem, uninstall the Kindle app and install it again. Another person did this and the Kindle library updated.

Start the Kindle app and tap Cloud. This should show you everything in your Kindle library. If you don't see everything in your library - open the Settings charm and tap Help (from the Kindle app). Maybe there's troubleshooting info online.

Cloud: All the books in your Kindle Library appear under the Cloud tab. If a book has a cloud icon in the lower right corner, select the book to read now or download for later use. If it doesn't have a cloud icon it is already stored on your device

Downloaded (or Device): Once downloaded, the book will appear under your Downloaded (or Device) tab and is available for reading offline.

Kindle Store: Select this tab to shop for items in the Kindle Store if you are connected to the internet. You will need to sign in with your Amazon account to purchase books

If you still face issues I would recommend you to uninstall and then Re-install Kindle from Store.

Hope it helps resolving the query, if you have any other query related to Windows or the issue still persist feel free to post. I will be glad to help you.

    Thanks & Regards!

I'm attempting the same but finding the Kindle App for Win8 fails to load from the Windows Store. It sits there "Pending" but never installs.

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro and was having trouble with a book I just purchased showing up.  It did show up on my iPhone right away.  ** I finally logged out of the Kindle app on the Surface, logged back into Amazon, and the book appeared right away. **

I am having consistent problems getting the store to load, but I found that if I tap the shopping cart icon in the upper right, it seems to connect more reliably, vs. selecting one of the recommended selections.

I also have an Envy x2.  I use the Kindle App, but am curious of the most efficient way to use a text-speech option (or if this is even a capability of the envy x2/kindle app combination).
