    Hi,

    1. What is the version of Windows 7 you use?

    2. Is it a 32 bit or 64 bit computer?

    3. What is the exact error message you receive in compatibility mode?

    4. What is the edition of civilization 4 game on your computer? e.g civilization 4 Gold, complete, colonization.

    5. Who is the manufacturer of the game? 2k games or Take-Two Interactive

All editions of Civilization IV are compatible with Windows 7 32 bit computer. Refer the below link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?l=en-us&type=Software&s=Civilization%20IV&os=32-bit

But, only limited editions of Civilization IV are compatible with Windows 7 64 bit computer

    Check the link below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?l=en-us&type=Software&s=Civilization%20IV&os=64-bit

To work on this issue, follow these steps.

    Step 1:

Try to install any latest patches or updates for the game from the manufacturer website and check if it helps.

    Step 2:

If it does not work, contact the game manufacturer for further assistance.

    Hope this information is helpful.

Try reinstalling the game. I have civ 4 beyond the sword and it works perfectly. Check that the disk is clean and scratch free and when istalling, Install as administrator . It should not need compatibility mode, besides in my experience compatibility mode never works for anything
