Why does my computer delete the next letter when I insert a missing letter in a word?

Dear Sirs

COMPUTER: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Sometimes I type a word incorrectly by missing a letter.   When I insert the missing letter, the next letter is cut off.  For example,  I want to write the word MARKET but miss letter K and write MARET.  When I insert the letter K, my computer deletes letter E

Why does this happen and how could I avoid this problem?

Kind regards

Tap the Insert key once to toggle out of that mode. That is what it is intended to do.

Hello, I'm from the Netherlands so my English isn't very good, but I know how to solve it. On your keyboard you can find the button ''ins''. Push it and you will see you can type a letter between others letters without deleting the following.
