    Hi,

That kind of sounds like the button on the drive is getting a bad connection, unless I misunderstood the problem...

You could try going to COMPUTER and right clicking on the drive, and select EJECT and see if that works any better...

    Hi cstoltie,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community. It seems that you have an issue with the DVD drive not being recognized on Windows 8. This can be really frustrating for you and I appreciate the efforts that you have put in. Let us work together as a team try to get this issue fixed.

Let us start with a few questions-

    1)      Do you face a similar issue with other hardware components on the computer?

    2)      Have you made any other changes on the computer?

I would like more information regarding the issue.

    Method 1-

I would have you run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

    Refer the steps-

    a)        Click on “Start” and type “troubleshooting” (without the quotations) and then select “Settings”.

    b)       Now, Click on “view all”.

    c)       Run the “Hardware and Devices” troubleshooter.

    Method 2-

I would have you download and install the latest drivers for the hardware (including the firmware updates) from the manufacturer’s website.

You can ask the manufacturer for assistance.

    Method 3-

I would have you refer to the steps suggested by “AtishayMSFT” from the thread-

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, refer the steps:

    a)      Click on the “Windows+R” keys simultaneously, type “regedit” (without the quotes) and hit “Enter”.

    b)      Now, click on “File” and select “Export”. Save it to the desired location.

    c)       If you make any mistakes while editing the registry, then you can just Right Click on the Exported file and select “Import”.
