Why does it take literally HOURS for me to receive email ?

When anyone asks me to look for an email from them, friends or businesses, it has NEVER been received in less than 4 hours after being sent.

My wife forwards me email from her computer (which is 3 feet from me on her desk) and it takes sometimes 4 hours to get to me. Microsoft techs have sent me passwords, etc. and it always takes hours to get to me. Why???

    Hi William,

We are glad to assist you regarding this issue. I understand that you need to receive your mails as soon as possible.

It is possible that you Live Mail client is not properly set to check emails on time. To check this, please follow these steps:

    1. Click File (or press Alt+F).
    2. Select Options, then click Mail.
    3. Under Check for new messages every..., select a lower time (like 5 minutes).
    4. Click Ok.

If the issue persists, can you please verify if the messages are also delayed when accessing it directly on the web?

    We appreciate your reply.

    Thanks!

To get your emails faster, you may have to increase the time interval.  Try 10 minutes and see.

Norton has been causing this kind of problems for years.

Shutdown Norton and see if you still have the problem.

Do you only have one account?

    Hello William,

Thank you for providing us additional information regarding your inquiry. What my colleague is trying to say is that, are you experiencing the same issue when you access your account via Hotmail/Outlook.com web browser. Going back to your concern, listed below are the possible causes of mail delivery delays:

    • Email traffic on the server causing the sending/receiving of emails to travel much slower than the usual receiving time.
    • Mail servers may be undergoing maintenance, or there may be a service outage.
    • Content of the email message - message was large, or it contained one or more large attachments.
    • Email message is subject for review for spam filtering as incoming mail.
    • Inbox storage limit on receiving end.

It's possible that the issue was caused by a corrupted program file in Windows Live Mail client installed in your desktop. To sort this issue, kindly repair Live Mail by following the steps below:

    1. Go to Control Panel.
    2. Under Programs, click **Uninstall a Program.**3. Locate Windows Live Essential 2011 then click **Uninstall/Change.**4. When a window appears, select **Repair all Windows Live programs.**5. Restart your computer after the repair.

After repairing Live Mail, I suggest that you configure/re-configure your account. Please follow the steps on this Microsoft article **How do I add an account to Windows Live Mail?** on how to do this.

If the issue still persists, please let us know.

Reply: I checked and my time for checking new messages is 3 minutes. I don't understand the question " verify if messages are delayed when accessing it directly on the web" . . accessing what? When I send messages, they are sent immediately with no delay; at least, my screen says so.

When I receive messages, the time marked on them is the time sent, right? As a test,  I have had friends mail me and we checked the time taken to get to me; in each case, several hours. I don't have any answers, only frustration.
