Cannot use Windows Update, error code 800B0001

Over the past few days, I have been trying to run Windows Update to upgrade my new laptop to the latest versions. Whenever I run Windows Update, it gives me the "Checking for Updates..." dialog box, before telling me that Windows Update needs to install new software with the "Install Now" button. I click this, wait for about 15 seconds, and then it slaps me with a "Windows could not search for new updates" box with an error code "800B0001". I have attempted running the updater from both my college campus, and from home, with the same results.

Is there a fix out there for this? I can't run any updates if my updater isn't working...

I have the same problem and I am trying to download the System Udpdate Readiness tool but I get the message that my system won't let me download the file. Tried adjusting my security, putting the http in trusted files, downloading on another computer, same result. Is the file protected or something. I'm trying to download Vista X86.

    Thanks

I was finally able to get the System Update Readiness Tool to run, but it did absolutely nothing. Just to be sure I ran it again - nothing. Did a chkdsk, used thier Mr. Fixit tool. Nothing. Haven't had any updates since June, 2012. Crazy...

Short of paying for an upgrade, I tried all the fixes suggested, System Update Readiness Tool, Microsoft fix it, and a clean boot, nothing works.
