Bluray AND DVD drives will burn but not read anything

My optical drives will burn but not read content of any disk (be it movie, software, audio, etc home made or professional).  I have had this issue now with 2 DVD-RW drives and a BluRay drive that I just purchased.  I thought it was the drives, but when I purchased the BluRay drive and it did it straight out of the box it confused me.  The drives will all burn just fine (CD,DVD, or BD) but will not read any content whatsoever.  The disk title shows up, but when I click on it, nothing happens. Anyone ever experience this?

Looks like Windows recognizes her drive OK. I had the same problem and replied to her post with the solution I found.

I experienced the same problem with my Liteon Blu-ray burner. Obviously your drive is recognized, because you can burn discs. The same was true for me; the only discs mine would not read were BD-R discs I had burned. I downloaded and installed the latest firmware from Liteon and the drive was able to read BD-R discs burned with it after the firmware update--but it still cannot read the discs that were burned prior to the update. By the way, the discs that my drive would not read played perfectly on my Sony 3D BluRay player.

    Hi Richard Dailey,

I am sorry if I have failed to understand the issue.

Could you please help me to know what the exact issue is?

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I see that you are having a hard time dealing with the DVD drive installed on your computer.

You may try these steps and check if it fixes the DVD drive issue

    Method 1:

Run the fixit from the following link and check:

Fix problems with CD or DVD drives that can’t read or write media

    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd\_dvd\_drive\_problems/en-us

    Method 2:

**Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs**

    Note:

Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article:

If the issue persists or you need any assistance regarding Windows in future let us know.

We will be happy to help.
