Referring to following link, does anyone tries whether Apple MacBook Air Superdrive to work on any PC or not?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Solution for PC users: Does it work ?

The solution is as simple as installing the right drivers for it. Apple supplies these along with many other PC drivers on their OS X installation disc. Why? So when you install Windows on a Mac all Apple peripherals and devices will work.

So here is what you got to do:

  • Run to your nearest friend or colleague who owns a Mac.
  • Borrow his/her original installation DVD that came with that Mac.
  • Insert it on any PC with a DVD-ROM drive.
  • Copy/Paste to a thumb drive the file AppleODDInstaller.exe located at \Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple if you have Windows 32 bit or \Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple\x64 if you have the 64 bit version.
  • Run that file from the thumb drive on the PC you want to use your Apple MacBook Air Superdrive.
  • That’s it! You are done. Now that the drive is not only recognized but also powered and ready to burn.

I managed to get my Superdrive working with Windows 7 64bit just fine. Here's a link to my thread on Notebookreview that describes what I did:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/730890-using-apple-macbook-air-superdrive-non-apple-pc-not-running-mac-os-possible-not.html

For 32bit, if you read through the above, it's my understanding that as we need the AppleODDInstaller.exe file, you would need that in 32 bit format. I got mine from the 64bit version of Boot Camp, but if you require a 32bit version, that requires Boot Camp 4 which is not the same version I downloaded in my guide.

Have a look at what Apple say about 32bit Boot Camp here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5639

I imagine if you follow my guide, but substitute the version of Boot Camp I used with the correct 32 bit version (Boot Camp 4) you should be good to go. Version 4 can be downloaded from the same link I posted in my guide, or from here:

    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#macoscomponents

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    Stevie.

you gave the answer in your question, yes it does work, thank you !

Using the info in your question, I were able to find AppleODDInstaller.exe file (64 bit version) for my Windows 8 Ultrabook. this is the website I used to install the file on my laptop:

    http://www.mmnt.net/db/0/0/82.199.101.173/install/MacOS/Boot%20Camp%204.0/Drivers/Apple/x64

The result is I am using my friends MacBook Air Super Drive and watching DVD right now :)

Hmmm. I'd like to get a Superdrive I just bought to work with my 64bit Windows 7 Ultrabook (Toshiba Z830) as well. The link above requires a password etc to download the relevant file, so I can't go further with this without some assistance.

Also, it would be great if you could give a 'step by step' of what you did to get ths Superdrive to work for you.

Thanks in advance - hope to get this up and running soon!
