Windows 8 freezes during startup.

Every morning, when I turn on my Windows 8 computer, it freezes as soon as the Windows 8 logo starts loading.

I always push the "reset" button (not the power button) on ZT, and my computer re-starts without any problems.

It happens EVERY MORNING.

What would be the easiest way to figure out what causes it? Event viewer - Administrative Events? System?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums.

From the issue description, I understand that the computer is freezing during startup.

    1. Are you getting any error message when you are trying to startup the computer?
    2. What is the make and model of the computer?
    3. Have you made any recent changes to the computer?

    Method 1:

I suggest you to disconnect all the external devices connected to the computer and check if it helps.

    Method 2:

Let’s check if this issue occurs in safe mode:

    Step 1:

Please refer to the steps to boot the computer into safe mode:

You may boot the computer in safe mode and check if it takes the same amount of time to boot.

    Please refer to the link:

“Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)”

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

    Step 2:

Place the computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists. You may follow the article mentioned to perform a clean boot.

    Perform a Clean Boot

Follow the instructions (Step 1 for Windows 8) given in this link to perform a clean boot:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After performing the troubleshooting steps in clean boot, follow these steps to return the computer to Normal startup mode.

    a) Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

    b) In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.

    c) On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click ok.

    d) When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

    Method 3: ****

I would suggest you to refer to the link if the troubleshooter does not help:

Follow the section “My computer hangs or freezes at the Starting Windows screen” “:

    “Windows hangs or freezes”

    Follow the section “Windows 8”:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681286?wa=wsignin1.0

I would suggest you to send us the Event Viewer log files.

You may follow the steps to get Event Viewer on Windows 8:

    a) Go to the Start Screen.

    b) Type in Event Viewer.

    c) This will bring up the Event Viewer box. Click to open the event viewer.

    d) In the left pane, expand out Windows Logs.

    e) Click on Application log. Highlight the first event in the log and use your arrow keys to scroll down.

    f) Most of your event will be Information. You may see Yellow Warnings or Red Errors. If you see a red error, you can double click on it to bring it up and copy the contents to a document.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you for your response.

I was able to figure out what causes my computer to freeze.

Every night, I used to turn off my computer and my battery backup/surge protection unit. It would also turn off my Samsung printer connected with a USB cable.

Every morning, I used to push the power button "on" for the UPS unit, and my computer, along with the printer, would start.

Somehow I've noticed that my computer used to freeze when the printer was making its regular noises at a boot-up. After "restart", the computer would start normally, without any issues. Why? The printer was already "on" (not going through its start-up procedure).

I unplugged my printer, started the computer, and all my computer start-up freezing problems were gone.

Right now, I turn my printer on after the computer's startup process is complete.

I don't know how to permanently fix it, but I know how to live with that "chronic" disease.
