Folders Shortcuts Rename

I have created hundreds of folder shortcuts in another folder. The problem is that each folder has "- shortcut" appended to it's name. Is there a way to rename the hundreds of shortcuts without damaging the first part of the folder's name? AND without damaging the original folder and it's contents?

FOLDER100 - shortcut

FOLDER220 - shortcut

FOLDER137 - shortcut

...

...

FOLDER1321 - shortcut

    I was hoping Microsoft had a way to do this without using outside applications.  Is there a way to create the shortcuts with the original name of the folder as long as it is in a different folder?

    That's a different question and I would have to answer "I don't know of a way. I rename each shortcut immediately after I create it."

    The utility I recommended will save you a lot of time if you decide to rename shortcuts which already exist.

    Can you think of a way of renaming them if they were in a file and you use find and replace.

    Creating a shortcut then renaming it without the Shortcut three times will turn off apending Shortcut. Or that is how it worked in Windows 95*.*

    To Turn Off

    Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type (or copy and paste by right clicking in the Command Prompt window and choosing Paste).

    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" /v Link /t REG_Binary /d 00000000 /f

    I was hoping Microsoft had a way to do this without using outside applications.  Is there a way to create the shortcuts with the original name of the folder as long as it is in a different folder?  Such as:

    OLDFOLDER\FOLDER100  -->  NEWFOLDER\FOLDER100

    OLDFOLDER\FOLDER220  -->  NEWFOLDER\FOLDER220

    OLDFOLDER\FOLDER137  -->  NEWFOLDER\FOLDER137

    ...                                                  ...

    ...                                                  ...

    OLDFOLDER\FOLDER1321 --> NEWFOLDER\FOLDER1321

    (Microsoft has this strange practice of appending stuff to the name, when all you want is another location with a link back to the original location).

    Hi,

    I've used this free utility for a couple of years

    Bulk Rename Utility http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php

    There's a bit of a learning curve, but I can generally get it to do what I want.

    Support Forums http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/forum/

    A search of the web will find other (often free) similar utilities.

    Don
