Original title: I just bought an Acer desktop. Can I download a driver for wi-fi or lan capability that will pick up sig. from a router or do I need to buy an external router for my desk top

My comp. is an Acer with win.7 64 bit. I am presently borrowing a router from a friends comp. from another part of the house and when I had my laptop I could pick up sig from his router and I would like to do this with my desktop.

Hi Rodney,

I would like to inform you that desktops don’t have wireless adapters built into the system. In order for wireless to work for a computer it needs a wireless card that catches and receives any wireless signal available. Most laptops have wireless cards installed as default and you don't have to worry about wireless in that case. For desktops, you will have to connect to the router, using an Ethernet cable.

You can purchase and install the wireless adapter and its software. For this, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer to find out if there is a wireless adapter available for the desktop and how to install it.
