UEFI boot does not find my HDD but Legacy does. What is causing this? Windows 8

Hi, I'm having a major issue and have searched everywhere I can possibly think of. My issue is as follows:

I wanted to revert back to Windows 7 because quite frankly, Windows 8 is not for me. I proceeded to do so but upon restarting my system, I realised my computer was not recognising my HDD. I quickly checked the BIOS options and noticed that the Legacy Boot Source has my HDD listed so I know it is discovered, however it is not shown in UEFI. Correct me if I am wrong but Windows 8 boots from UEFI. This is the problem, it has no HDD to boot from in these options.

What I have done thus far:

Full chkdsk scans, HDD is fine.

Multiple checks on my HDD with external software created from ISO image files, no errors what so ever.

Passes SMART test. My HDD is not broken.

Why I cannot advance:

Windows 8 does not give me the option to access UEFI setup without running Windows. This is a huge flaw that I have found, is there anyway I can get UEFI to recognise my HDD again, I'm fresh out of ideas and really hope someone on here can help. If you need anymore information then please, feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Nercoe,

I would like to ask certain questions in context of this issue related to boot scenario:

  1. How are you trying to revert back to Windows 7? Are you using a Windows 7 DVD to reinstall the operating system?
  2. What exactly happens when you try to boot? Do receive any error message?
  3. What is the Make and Model of the computer?
  4. Are you able to boot normally on the computer after selecting the legacy mode in BIOS?

I would like to inform you that UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is a standard firmware interface for a computer, designed to replace BIOS (basic input/output system). This standard was created by over 140 technology companies as part of the UEFI consortium, including Microsoft. It's designed to improve software interoperability and address limitations of BIOS.

As far as the boot sequence is concerned, I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the computer if the computer is not able to recognize the hard drive while trying to boot.

Please let us know if you need any other assistance on issues with Windows.
