have a lenovo G570 computer and recently lost the cd/dvd drive. what can i do to reinstall?

The cd/dvd drive used to work fine. Now when I put in a cd or dvd it won't engage or start. I can hear it enter and attempt to start.

When clicking on my computer, the drive does not show up.

Don't know how it disappeared. Could have been some windows update?? or when I installed the new kaspersky (don't think that this was really a cause)

Not a tetchy person so not sure what else to do. I did go back and do a restore but that didn't help.

Since the drive doesn't work I can't use the original disk I created when I got the computer. Computer is about 2 years old... maybe a bit less.

Oh the only other possible cause that I can think of is when I was having trouble with my browser and loading my att yahoo account. A rep from ATT spocked into my computer and  worked behind the scene to fix. They did delete my firefox and temp files. Unfortunately I don't know exactly when I lost the cd/dvd drive. Was around that time but I cannot say for sure.

Let me know if there is anything other information you may need to help resolve the problem. Thanks!

Try scanning your computer with RadarSync to know if your DVD/CD ROM driver is outdated or not. You can go for the free version. Once you find out that it's really an outdated driver that may be causing the issue, then you can update the driver by searching it in Google or let the software do it for you.

    I hope this helps!

Still haven't been able to resolve.

Think I may need to reinstall the DVD/CD ROM drive from Lenovo. Can't seem to get it :-(

The drive did reappear for 3 days but is now gone again. I have done so many things, restore, deleting and re-adding programs so not sure how it came back but it has disappeared again.

Actually I did notice it appear when I connected 2 USB devices to back up info as I was going to send my computer in for repair. Can't repeat the process now though.

Use my computer for business and personal records so don't really want to send it in.

Guess I will continue to try to solve the problem:-)

Hi, I am using Windows 7 Home Premium

Haven't gotten any error messages as the cd/dvd now will not recognize a disk.

I was able to find that the cd/dvd file system reader is disabled.

Also 3 other files are disabled that may be related:

    cre disk filter driver

    trdf's

    winstock IFS driver

Is there some way to reactivate them or enable them?

I can't back up anything as the cd drive is not working.

Can't use the original back up either as it is on a cd.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    1.     Which version of windows operating system is installed on your computer?

    2.     Are you getting any error message or error code?

Refer to the steps from the following Microsoft article and check.

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116

Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry
