Internet Connection Problem

Hello,

I've been having some problems with my internet connection. I’m trying to use my wifi to connect to a public network like my school. I connected from another device and had no problems. I used to connect to this network all the time with no issues. My ping seems to be strong, but when I clicked on one of those websites that are supposed to test my internet connection speed, it said it was slow. Then again it always said that. There are not a lot of people connected to the network, so I have a feeling it’s something with my computer.

The only problem is the internet connection keeps dropping, or the webpages do not load all the way, or the browser I’m using won’t go to the web page at all. The webpage will try to load for a while then say “This webpage is not available” on Internet Explorer, or Google chrome will say

“This webpage is not available the server can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.”

Things I’ve tried:

1.       Diagnose and repair.

2.       Network and sharing>Manage Network Connections >Wireless Network Connection>Properties>Configure>Power Management> Deselect “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”

3.       I used Microsoft Security Essentials to fully scan my pc for any problems. It found none.

4.       Settings > Show advanced settings > Change proxy settings> LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox in Google Chrome.

5.       Control panel>Windows Firewall>Exceptions>Program or Port>Add program>Add a Program> Google Chrome> OK

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your help

  Gabriel

    Hi Gabriel,

I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue and thank you for the detailed description.

Have you made any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

Looks like there is a server issue in the computer. Please follow the methods to fix the issue:

    Method 1: Clear DNS cache

Your DNS cache stores locations (IP addresses) of webservers that contain pages which you have recently viewed. If the location of the web server changes before the entry in your DNS cache updates, you will be unable to access the site.

    a. Type Win + R on the keyboard

    b. Type the following in the Run text box: ipconfig /flushdns

Method 2: You may try to reset the TCP/IP stack go to this article and either click on "Fix it for me" or follow the instructions to fix it yourself:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

Method 3: Temporarily disable security software and firewall settings and check if the Internet Connection drops.

    Disable antivirus softwa re

Turn Windows Firewall on or off

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 4: Refer to the articles:Wired and wireless network problems

Please perform these recommended steps and post back if you are still experiencing the issue. I will be glad to provide you with additional options.
