Where can I get a copy of DOS

I know that Windows comes with a command prompt, and I know about programs such as DosBox. What I'm looking for is an actual copy of Microsoft DOS. I can't find one anywhere. It's to the point where I'm going to go get one from The Pirate Bay, not because I support digital piracy or anything, but because I can't find a copy anywhere else.

If anyone out there knows where I can find a copy of DOS, please post here. You'll help me and those who may also be looking for their own copy.

Thank you.

    Hi,

You will need to look for second hand copies, there are no new ones for sale. Early Windows systems will not load on most current machines as they do not understand the CPU's or RAM.

Either DOS or early windows will only load on drives up to 2 GB, and their fdisk program will not correctly address modern drives as the layout is totally different to the drives at the time. Neither has any support for tcp/ip, so internet connections are not possible.

I would suggest you to use your favorite search engine and search, you might get links to download the DOS.

**Note:**Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk.

    Hope this helps.

I AM against downloading pirated software. However, my stance weakens when I can't find an older version of unsupported software anywhere else. Oh, and I do love physical copies of things. I like feeling the CD in my hand. I like not having to rely on internet.

On a somewhat unrelated note, have you heard of Microsoft Dreamspark? I just found out I can download a legal copy of the latest version of DOS (6.22) through my college's partnership with Microsoft Dreamspark. I just enter my student email, and I get access. In fact, I've got the whole collection! I got DOS, Win95, Win98, Win2000, and Windows Vista (ha ha ha, yup, it's so bad Microsoft is giving it away!). And all this I got legally!

So why the other posts? I was frustrated, so I flaunted The Pirate Bay in my obstinate mood. But now I'm happy. So thanks for the reply.

Sorry, but you asked for a copy of DOS without specifying if it needed to be free or not and you seem to imply that you would like a physical copy, you also seemed against downloading it from sites like the pirate bay.

"You will need to look for second hand copies, there are no new ones for sale. "

"Checked Amazon. Nothing. Checked Ebay. Nothing. I can't find any copies anywhere."

    Don't think so, http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-MS-DOS-Operating-System-Floppy/dp/B003HN9ZK8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378605242&sr=8-1&keywords=ms-dos+6.22

4 "new" copies of MS-DOS 6.22" and 2 open box. Some of the new ones claim to be in its original packaging.

    Ebay

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xms-dos+6.22&_nkw=ms-dos+6.22&_sacat=0&_from=R40

lots of second hand MS-DOS copies. All you have to do is wait a little while.
