error message 1721 attempting to install a new program on windows 7

I've been trying to install Corel Draw X6 on my new 64-bit (windows 7) computer to no avail. I keep getting the message that there was an error 1721 with the windows installer package. .....I presume that it is related to the older corel draw X4 i had installed (and transferred to my new computer along with my other programs using CopyIIPC), as the error points to a problem with the shell extension in the previous 32-bit program files (x86). However, even though I have uninstalled the older program, I was unable to uninstall the shared files extension portion of the program. I have since deleted the Corel folder in the Windows common files extension folder, to no avail. A number of automated (since I would have no clue what to do) registry editor programs (2 free, one purchased) were of no help. So now neither program works; that is the older X4 (which I get the same error 1721 message when I try to reinstall that program (at least it used to work)l, or the newer X6 which has never worked. Any ideas, as I'm at my wits end...??

thanks,

d

Hi Dvoyk,

-Is this issue specific to Corel Draw? Are you able to install/uninstall other programs successfully?

This issue can occur if previous version of Corel Draw is not completely removed from your computer. I would suggest you to run the Fixit and check if it helps.

This tool is designed to fix un-installation/installation issues like, MSI registry issues, removes remnants of programs from your computer.

a)      Click the below link and select Run Now button.

 http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program\_Install\_and\_Uninstall

b)      After downloading and running for the first time

c)      Select Run on small **** pop-up window and select Run on Internet Explorer-Security Warning Window.

d)      Select Detect problems and let me select the files to apply.

e)      Select Installing.

f)       It will take 10- 15 minutes to finish.

g)      Restart your computer and check if it fixes the issue.

The installation or un-installation process of a program can fail for several reasons. This article discusses the following issues (Click each issue for related resolution):• Windows Installer issues

 • Installing or updating programs in Windows may not have completed successfully

 • Uninstalling programs in Windows may not have completed successfully

I would suggest you to refer to the help article and check.
