My photos keep duplicating themselves instead of working correctly like they did in XP.

Got any clues on what changed with my photos when I went to Windows 7?

Were they edited, ever ? each time you edit a photo it will make a copy of the original, unless you used the (save as) and changed the name of the edited photo, then it will be saved as a separate file.

The only thing that may have changed is a new windows live photo gallery, scroll through your programs and see if (windows live) is listed.

    Hi,

    1. Do the duplicate picture files have same file names?
    2. Do the files duplicate when you are transferring them?
    3. What folder are the pictures located in?

4, Are you using any software to transfer photos to your computer from a camera or other device?

Please give us some more information so that we can help you fix the problem.

If your computer has many duplicate files, you might want to use a program designed to find and remove duplicate files. Search using your favorite search engine for

    more information.

THANK YOU!!! This "feature" was driving me crazy, seems like even MS doesn't know the answer to this.  I have have been searching high and low and all I see in response is the a lame "Please give us some more information so that we can help you fix the problem."  How embarrassing for MS!

    >snip<

I am having the same problem. I have photos on a flash drive. thousands of them, as I try to pick  a bunch of them at the same time, using ctrl then pick the ones that I want (shift would pick all in a row) it automatically starts creating copies of some of those jpg files and naming them copy (2) 3 etc. and the file name of the photo.

    >snip<

    ==============================

I suspect your copies are being created

    as follows:

Hold your Ctrl key and select several files...

Place your pointer on the selected group

(still holding the ctrl key) and left click / drag

the group even just the slightest bit...now

release the mouse button. (this happens by

    accident when rapidly selecting files)

The 'Copy of xxx.jpg' duplicates will appear.

Changing your folder options from Double

Click to Single Click should prevent the

    accidental copies.

With single click selected...all you have to

do is a mouse over...no click is required to

    select (highlight) a file.

One mouse over selects a file and a second

mouse over deselects the file. No clicking

required. Just hold your control or shift key

and mouse over /select all the files you want.

Windows 7 - Open files and folders with a single click:

Start button / Control Panel / Appearance and

Personalization / Folder Options / General tab...

Left click..."Single-click to open an item (point to select)" / OK

    ===

There's also a Registry Hack that can increase

the number of pixels the pointer can move before

releasing the button will create the copies. The

instructions I have are for XP and Vista and I'm

not positive it works for Win 7.

My problem with photos being duplicated appears to me to be in Windows Live Photo Gallery.  So, I will try to become familiar with the program.  Frankly, I have been happy with how everything worked in XP and I would not have purchased this new computer with Windows 7 in it if I had known I would have to relearn how to do everything!  Why can't people just leave things alone!  The Big Microsoft Monopoly is taking advantage of us!  Now ...... delete this, like I think you probably will be instructed to do!
