Original Title - Windows cannot read blank disks

When I insert a blank DVD-R for burn it, a error is shown- "Windows cannot read the disk in drive F:- Make sure that the disk uses a format Windows recognizes. If  the disk is unformatted, you need to format it before using it." So I can't burn any DVD-R disk... But if I use DVD-RW disk, it can be burned smoothly without any problem.. Windows cannot recognize only DVD-R disk.. My DVD-RW driver is Sony Optiarc AD-7280S. When I use Windows 7 no problem was found in burning a DVD-R disk. But after using Windows 8 I cannot burn any DVD-R disk. So Please Help me....

    Hi Sourav,

From your description I understand that your computer is not able to recognize the blank CD's and DVD's.

    a. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

    b) Is the issue confined to CD or DVD of any particular brand?

Perform the following methods and check if that helps:

    Method 1:

Run the Hardware Troubleshooter and check if it works.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

    a.       Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

    b.      Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.

    c.       Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option.

Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter

    Method 2:

Follow the steps to uninstall and install the CD/DVD drive

    a) Press the Window key+X

    b) Select Device Manager from the options

    c) Left click on the CD/DVD drive

    d) Right click on the CD/DVD drive installed

    e) Click on uninstall

    f) Right click again on the same and click install

    g) Then restart the computer

Reply to us if you face any issues any other Windows issue and we will be glad to assist you again and try to rectify the issue as early as possible.
