    Hi,

From your description it appears that you are having problems with your cursor

Please answer the following questions so that I could assist you further

    1. Have you made any recent hardware/ software changes to your computer?
    2. Do you have a parallel operating system installed?

    Method 1: Rectify the problem

If you are using an optical mouse, check if the light below it is on. If it isn't reconnect your mouse the CPU and check again. Check if the connection is loose.

If it's already on, go to method 2

    Method 2: A software fix

If your hardware is perfect, there might be an issue with the software.

Open up the control panel using your keyboard.

Open 'Mouse' and make sure all the settings are correct and satisfy your needs. After making all the necessary changes press enter or the key used for apply.

    Method 3: Reinstall

Check the computer mouse driver. Go to "Control Panel" and open the "System" folder. Choose "Device Driver Tab" and arrow down to "Mouse." Look and see if the driver is installed. If there is a yellow icon, the mouse has a problem. Un-install the mouse and reboot the computer. Reinstall the mouse driver and reboot the computer.

If you are still having problems or you want further assistance, feel free to reply to this post.

My cursor in my laptop has stopped moving and I don't know why. I've checked the settings and nothing has changed. I've restarted it multiple times and it moves when I'm logging in to the computer but when my laptop opens up to the homepage it won't move.

    My Reply to Ashwin0

    Hi,

I am giving below my observations point- wise.

    (1) Even when the cursor stops responding to the mouse, the red light glows below the mouse.

Though this happens only twice or thrice every day, that consumes considerable time,to turn          off and restart the computer  without the mouse.

But we can conclude that there is no loose contact, since the light glows whenever computer

    is on.

    (2) By clicking the icon of mouse in the Control Panel and then the Troubleshoot button, it

gives a Device Status Report, which indicates that "the mouse is working properly" .

    (3) Then, as suggested by you, I opened the "Systems" folder from Control Panel. From the                  Pop-up window "System Properties" , choosing the tag "Hardware" I could get access to

    the window "Device Manager".

There I observed that the icon for mouse along with the icons for other hardware items

like Batteries, Computer, Disk drives etc. are not shown in yellow color , Whereas

" Modem device on High Definition Audio Bus " and "PCI Flash Memory" and "SMS Bus                 Controller "are all highlighted in Yellow color.

But with my present modem , I have no difficulty in browsing , receiving & sending emails,

    seeing videos etc.

With the above observations , may I request you for further advice ?

    Hello Ashwin0,

    Thank you for yourreply.

The "Update driver" tag in the Device Manager was clicked (after selecting the mouse in the list of hardware) . That brings in "Hardware Update Wizard" which scanned and reported - "The Wizard could not find a better match  for your hardware than the software you currently have installed. "

The Troubleshoot in the Control Panel has also reported that the mouse is working alright.
