I've had the exact same problem since going to Windows 8. The same applications on Windows 7 work correctly. Currently I'm having to fire up a Windows 7 VMware session just to be able to get to the management console of my IP kvms, switches, and printers. You never realize how much uses Java until it stops working!

2013-06-12T22:53:41+00:00 I had the same problem too. My intro. to computer programming professor suggested rolling back to Java 7 Update 10. It resolved the issue.
I'm not vouching for this link, but I did use it to install that version mentioned above because I couldn't any older versions of Java on the Java site other than those intended for servers and as dev kits. If you have another trusted source you'd normally use, go for it, and give it a try. For me, Java 7 Update 21 was the first I had on my computer, so I had to uninstall it and install the older version of Java fresh from the link below.

The .jar files contain Java applications. You need the Java runtime environment installed on your computer to be able to run Java applications.
The Java runtime environment can be installed directly from Sun Microsystems' site online: (If it is already installed, then uninstall and reinstall it.
