I have 3 USB ports 1 is a 2.0 and the others are 3.0 I've tried plugging my mouse which is 2.0 into both of my 3.0 ports but they never work. Can they work 3.0?

    Hello,

They should work, presuming they are backward compatible. If they are dedicated 3.0 then no they won't work.

Go to Control Panel, Device Manager, click on USB devices. Find your two 3.0 USB ports, do they have just the 3.0 driver listed or the 2.0 and 1.1 drivers as well? That's how you can tell if they're backward compatible.

Let me know if this helps you out.

As far as I know - ALL USB 3.0 ports are backwards compatible for USB 2.x devices.  Not with 1.1 though.

How sure are you that this 'mouse' is a USB 2.0 device?

Umm, I don't know how to tell which is which because there multiple controllers there are two generic USB Hub, two USB root hub and two intel 6 series/ C200 series chipset family USB enhanced host controller 1C26 & 1C2D, one USB composite device. Under other there is a Universal Serial Bus Controller with a caution sign. That driver can never find a driver update.

Simply I can say that it does not work due to USB 2.0 has 4 pins; Pin1-Volt 5, Pin2-Data+, Pin3-Data- and Pin4-Ground but USB 3.0 has 9 pins; The pin settings 1 to 4 almost similar but 2, 3 pins vis versa compare to USB 2.0. Although there are additional super speed data transfer pins 5 to 9 in USB 3.0 could not interconnect with USB 2.0. Please don't try to connect your USB 2.0 devices without USB 3.0 converter to USB 3.0 socket in your PC/Laptop.

    Hello,

What does the driver status show for the USB Controller with the caution sign? On my system, the caution sign shows up when the flash drive it refers to isn't loading properly (I have to pull the flash drive and re-insert it). I then tested the flash drive on other USB ports and found the same error repeated on multiple USB ports, i.e., the flash drive is faulty.

Do you have other USB devices that you can test out those ports with, i.e., is the port at fault or the device at fault? Please post back here with the information.

    Regards,
