I have had no problems running an expanded Sims 2 on a Windows 7 (x64)
system. I don't recall trying to run an unexpanded Sims 2; by the time I
got a Windows 7 system, I had all of the expansions and Stuff Packs, so
I installed them all in one session.
I would recommend installing the program, downloading and applying all
updates for the basic program, and then do the same for each subsequent
expansion or Stuff Pack, in the order that they were released. Download
and apply all updates for a given expansion/pack before installing the
next expansion/pack.
