The Sims 2 is listed as not compatible with Windows 7, but the expansion is. So will the game work if I install the expansion?

In the compatibility center for Windows 7 it says that Sims 2 is not compatible with Windows 7. However, it says that an expansion pack is compatible. Does this mean that it will work if I install the expansion?

I have had no problems running an expanded Sims 2 on a Windows 7 (x64)

system. I don't recall trying to run an unexpanded Sims 2; by the time I

got a Windows 7 system, I had all of the expansions and Stuff Packs, so

I installed them all in one session.

I would recommend installing the program, downloading and applying all

updates for the basic program, and then do the same for each subsequent

expansion or Stuff Pack, in the order that they were released.  Download

and apply all updates for a given expansion/pack before installing the

    next expansion/pack.

    Hi,

You can try running the game in compatibility mode and check since the Windows compatibility center states that the game is incompatible with Windows 7.

    http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software&p=The%20Sims%202&v=EA&uid=1&l=en&pf=0&pi=0&c=PC%20Gaming&sc=Strategy&os=64-bit

    What is program compatibility?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-program-compatibility

Go to the folder where the game is installed (usually Program files/sims)

    a)      Right click on the Sims.exe

    b)      Click on properties

    c)       Go to compatibility

    d)      Run this program in compatibility mode for >  xp

If this does not help then I would suggest you to contact the game manufacturer for update details regarding Windows 7 compatibility.

unfortunately this only works if the base game is double deluxe. The regular sims 2 (which I have) does not work. Even after attempting all types of changes in compatibility mode.

I tested the game on my sons Windows 7 pc and it works fine there.

I am seriously considering "downgrading" my pc to windows 7 or even windows XP.

Glad it works for some people though :)

I am playing The Sims 2 and about half of my EPs (so far) on Windows 8 - that's Windows 8 - which is supposedly impossible to use TS2 on - let alone Windows 7. You need to set the compatibility for Windows XP, SP2.

Please see  the following link for a photographic account I'm posting of my installation:

    http://ts2.yuku.com/topic/5018/SUCCESS-Simming-with-Windows-8#.UTlhBDdGu1s

If you go up one level from the link, there is a section called References. In that section is a post with instructions how to install and run The Sims 2 in Windows 7. I actually copied and pasted those directly from the EA website itself.

    Hope that helps!
