WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped.

My event log shows the following error repetitively, but sadly MS has 0 info on the error?!

I have tried to update the hardware drivers, but it states they are up to date.  How can I resolve this error?

    Hi,

    You are unable to connect to network and you are getting error message” WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped”.

    Please follow the methods and check if it works fine.

    Method 1:

    Disable the Wireless Network Connection, and then enable the Wireless Network Connection

    To disable the Wireless Network Connection, and then enable the Wireless Network Connection:

    a)      Click on Start, click on Control Panel, click on Network and Internet, click on Network and Sharing Center, and in Tasks, and click on Manage network connections.

    b)      Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection that you want to manage, and in the drop-down menu, click on disable.

    c)       After the Wireless Network Connection is disabled, right-click the connection, and then click Enable.

    Method 2:

    Follow the steps to restart the WLAN AutoConfig service

    a.       Press Windows Key + R

    b.      In the run box, type services.msc and press enter.

    c.       Right-click on WLAN AutoConfig

    d.      Click on Properties, and on the General tab, in Startup type, select Automatic, and then click on Start.

    Hi.  (This is what worked for me)

    I myself have an ASUS AC-53 USB Wifi card.

    The card would every couple of hour indicate that there was no connection to the internet, but the wireless connection itself was working properly.

    If I unplugged and replugged the card or used the windows troubleshooting guide (that resets the card) the connection would start to work again.

    I found this message in the windows eventviewer for system : "WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped."

    In my case, my laptop came pre-installed with a driver software for "INTEL PROset"-wireless cards

    Once I uninstalled that software, the problem has gone away completely.

    My problems were pretty much the same as you describe and perhaps you may not have the same driver/software issue but just incase , this might give you a new perspective on things.

    Uninstall or update any other wireless driver software that you may have installed as most of these softwares tend to nestle themselves into the wlan autoconfiguration core of windows and can make life troublesome for other cards.

    Quick explination of what I already tried before actually solving it in my case.

    1. set a static IP
    2. reset the tcp stack
    3. disable power management options for the wifi card
    4. disable the windows firewall
    5. disable the local antivirus
    6. Ask my wifi card manufacturer support for help
    7. Setting wifi channels to manual 
    8. Swapping to a new USB wifi card of the same brand and model.

    The problem was , as written above, pre-installed paralell incompatible wifi drivers/software.

    Method 1 freezes my computer! Requires forcing a shutdown and restart. Not something to do on a regular basis.

    These are manual restart techniques and do not address the underlying issue. This appears in my event log on a daily basis, how can I eliminate whatever is causing Win7 to **** out?

    Same problem here WNA3100 ... with 8.1 64bit. Random loss of connectivity 2 weeks after initial setup.

    I'm having this problem as well, still trying to find a solution, however a short term fix is to remove the wireless card from device manager and then run a scan for new hardware. In my instance, it reinstates the wireless card and it continues to work for about a week or two before dying again. Rinse and repeat. Hope it helps, and sorry for the thread necro.
