blue screen driver power state failure

Hi.

I am having major issues with my hp compaq 610 notebook. This ultimately ends up with the bluescreen showing "driver power state failure".

Sometimes the computer will not even shut down, restart, start up, and every day at some point will even switch the entire machine off suddenly and without notice. I also lose the ability to use my keyboard, and sometimes even if i can boot up successfully, the screen is unlit even though the logon screen is there in the background and very feint.

I have tried to run startup recovery, but never successfully.

When i do get back on, albeit all to often briefly, the computer shows there are .dmp files which can be used to diagnose this.

I've looked at a few posts, and people who help ask to have these uploaded to the cloud, so i have tried to do this and hope this link provides those files.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks for those links and your assistance Gerry.

I have a few things to do now, so will get on with those and see how things go.

I have previously connected to the HP and Intel sites and ran their update utilities, but never had any of these updates come up in the results.

I had an idea my bios was out of date when it was mentioned in the event log when I looked yesterday, but have not ever updated a bios so was a bit wary of looking into that knowing some downloads and advice online can be inaccurate (to put it mildly).

I am ever so grateful to you and team ZigZag for helping, but unsure of the etiquate regarding Kudos.  You have both been very helpful so far so should I give kudos to all replies?

    regards and thanks again

Thank you Gerry and my apologie for using sendspace.  It was a quick solution for me as I dont get much time on my laptop before the keyboard stops functioning.

I have tried to do all that you have asked and hope that the link below will take you to the folder on my skydrive holding the files i uploaded. Apologies for how long this has taken me.

My system is a HP Compaq 610 notebook PC running Win 7 Professional 32 bit. The motherboard is a HP 308A. BIOS is KBC version 26.08, dated 27/10/2009. SMBIOS 68PVU ver F.0A

Using Send Space subjects the recipient to unwanted items. Please learn to use Sky Drive. For help with Sky Drive see paragraph 9.3:

    http://www.gerryscomputertips.co.uk/MicrosoftCommunity1.htm

    http://www.wikihow.com/Use-SkyDrive

Please post a copy of your dumpfile as shared file to your Sky Drive with a link here.

The dumpfile will be created at c:\windows\minidump. You may need to change your settings in Windows to be able to see the file. To show hidden files type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

What is your computer make and model? If not a branded computer what is your motherboard make and model?

Please download and run Driver View and upload a copy of the report it produces to your Sky Drive.

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Please upload to your Sky Drive, share with everyone and post a link here. The request for a copy of this file is additional to answering the question about make and model.

    Hi ZigZag,

First I tried to disable the bluetooth device in Device Manager. I did that successfully but still had the bluescreen problem. Using bluescreenview the problem looks to be the same as the 2nd crash from yesterday.

I pondered for a while, and think that because I am using my Blackberry Phone (via USB) to tether for my internet connection, that this is probably still why, but not 100% sure. The bluetooth function is turned off on the phone.

So I tried your alternative solution which was to rename the driver file to have a .BAK extension, but I cant do this. It says i need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to the file.

I am logged on with administrative system rights when I try this.

Thanks for your help so far
