Is it okay to set the TDR value in registry to 12?

Original Title : GPU procecessing time

My display driver stops responding and then recovers. I followed microsoft instructions and increased the GPU processing time by adjusting the Timeout Detection and Recovery registry value.  Microsoft said to set it at 8. This helped but only slightly so I went back in and set it at 12. This seems to have fixed the problem and everything seems to be running as it should for the past 2 days.  I am just wanting to know if it is okay to set it at 12 or could I be in for some problems at a later date because it is set to 12.

    Hi Jilos.

Setting the value to 12 should not be a problem.  This value only delays the length of time windows waits before starting the display driver recovery.

You might want to ask yourself why you are having to change this value though.  This issue is down to the performance of your graphics card.  It could be that it is possibly on its way to failing, especially if you are not taxing the graphics card when it happens.  If you are completely up to date with your drivers, from the card manufacturers website not microsoft, and updates then this is a good probability.

    Cheers.

Thanks LeeGplayer. Glad to hear that it shouldn't cause any problems. My computer is new (8 weeks)

My local computer guy checked it out and driver is updated, there are no conflicts and he can't see anything that could be causing it. I took it back to the shop I bought it from and they told me the graphics card is fine and its a software problem. So I guess I,ve done all I can do and now I will just have to wait and see if the graphics card fails or some other problem appears.
