I am running Windows 7 and I want to disable touchpad. When I  try to disable It from Device Manager, option 'Disable' Is not clickable. When I try option 'Remove' It says I need to restart my computer to apply changes, but after I restarted my computer, the Touchpad is still active.

Thanks.

    Hello,

I had a similarly difficult touchpad to disable, and I got around the problem this way. If possible, plug an external mouse into a USB port, then open the Touchpad control properties tab and look for a setting worded something like this:  Disable Touchpad when an external mouse is detected.

Then go back to Device Manager and try to disable the Touchpad. Since an external mouse is already plugged in and I therefore have a registered pointing device, Windows would let me disable the Touchpad without reinstalling it on the next reboot.

Let me know if this fixes the issue for you.

    Regards,

    Hello, thanks for the reply,

All I found in the device manager is PS/2 Compaitable Mouse, and disable option is unlcickable on that.  However, i fixed the problem by installing a touchpad manager named 'Synaptic Pointing Device Driver'. Thanks for help.

    Hello,

As far as I know you should be able to disable devices via cmd. Did you find a setting for disabling the Touchpad when a USB mouse is attached? If so, can you uninstall the Touchpad with the USB plugged in? Try that with a reboot and see what happens.

Keep me posted and let me know how you fare.

    Hello,

It's still same after I plugged USB mouse and restarted computer. As I said before, only avilabile option is 'Disable', and nothing changes after Windows complete Disabling(I'm restarting after process of course). Here's a screenshot of mouse options:

I searched a command on cmd for disabling devices, I got nothing. Thanks for your help

    Hello, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunatily, 'Disable' option is still unclickable. By the way, I was using Ubuntu few weeks ago, and there was a command for disabling devices, is it able to disable devices using cmd?
