Have a look at this thread, if you decide to go down that path I suggest you use that Malware Removal Forum, ask your question, and be guided by the experts there. From my reading of the following thread you may have picked up a Virus in the MBR (Master Boot Record) of your drive.
Whitesmoke virus blocks Malwarebytes, reinstalls, Stubborn virus resists removal by both Malwarebytes and Superantivirus

You might like to give this a try first if you are happy with the instructions on site. Don't worry about the Linux side of things, you are only interested in the malware removal offered via the emergency boot CD.

I've looked at most of the suggestions here -- some quite complex. Finally I decided to try to uninstall Whitesmoke manually.
My problem was not being able to uninstall Whitesmoke New via the usual uninstall method. I use Windows 7
So I started looking for the Whitesmoke folder in my operating system OS (C:).
I double clicked Program Files (x86), scrolled down to Whitesmoke New.
I opened the folder, highlighted all the files there, and SIMPLY selected delete. Away they went like a bad dream. Then I deleted the Whitesmoke New folder.
Then I went back to the Uninstall via the Control Panel and deleted the Icon.
Since the files went to the recyle bin I got that on the desktop via the start menu and deleted everything in the wastebasket. I finally got rid of this pesky software.
Hope this helps those who simply need a SIMPLE fix. Too much overkill is what I see here sometimes.
