Cursor disappears from active window - Windows 7

Hi,

I have a similar problem to the ‘Jumping cursor problem using Windows 7’, but reinstalling my mouse driver has not helped.

I have an ASUS A54C laptop, running Windows 7 and with an external Logitech keyboard and mouse, both going through a powered Logik USB hub (as there are only 2 USB ports on the laptop).

When I’m typing in an active window, i.e. a Word doc or email, after a few seconds of not typing, I return to typing, but the active window is no longer selected, so no text appears. I have to click on the area where I was previously typing to be able to continue. It seems like the cursor ‘disappears’ from the active window - or the 'active' window becomes 'inactive'. I have definitely not pressed anything to select another window in the meantime. This happens with all kinds of programs, web browsers, etc.

It has been running perfectly well until this past week or so. Strangely enough, this problem has coincided with me starting to use a TP-LINK 300Mbps high gain wireless USB adapter (plugged into the other USB port). I wonder if this is related.

This is extremely frustrating. Please help! Thanks in advance!

    Hi Steve,

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced.

I would ask you to check if the issue persists in clean boot mode. Clean boot helps to check if any third party program is causing the issue. To configure your computer to clean boot refer the following link:

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" under more information to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Hope this helps. If you have any further queries/issues related to Windows, write to us and we will be glad to assist you further.

    Hi Mahesh,

Thanks a lot for your help.

I performed a clean boot according to the steps and the video - but the computer just started as normal, and I was unable to work out how to proceed with troubleshooting which third party program is causing the issue.

Could you possibly advise me how to proceed?

    Best regards,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

How did you confirm that the computer started as normal?

I would like to tell you that when you follow the steps given in the article the computer will be placed in clean boot mode. The appearance will be similar to normal mode. So, I would ask you to check if the non Microsoft services are disabled by clicking the startup tab in the system configuration window and follow the steps given in the How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean bootsection under Windows 7.

    Thanks.
