None of my usb ports are working, and I can't get my mouse and keyboard to respond.  The computer will boot up, but none of the usb ports are working, and I don't have the use of a mouse or keyboard to work through any fixes.  Help!!

I have PS/2 ports but no PS/2 mouse or keyboard...haven't had those for a couple decades, and don't know of anyone that has those devices any longer

$6.36 (free shipping if you have Amazon Prime, otherwise about $11 including shipping): http://www.amazon.com/V7-Standard-PS-Keyboard-KC0A2-4N6P/dp/B007R9YV0C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372529682&sr=8-1&keywords=ps%2F2+keyboard

during boot, or maybe in Safe Mode

Assuming that your keyboard works during boot (and it should; try tapping F8 to get to the Advanced Boot Options Menu), probably the easiest method would be to make a Hiren's Boot CD, boot from that, and use one of the many included tools.  I haven't experimented with your particular situation, so I can't tell you which tools will or will not work for you, but my guess is that USBDeView might work.

Download and burn (copied from ElderL):

Download the Hiren's ISO here (a sizable download but worth it).

I like to use ImgBurn to create a bootable CD from the ISO:

When installing ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar (ever).

Thanks for all of the help. Seems that there is no easy "reset" for hardware mis-configurations.

However I dug down to the bottom of my "tech" bin and found a USB-to-PS/2 adapter, which allowed me to use the USB mouse in the PS/2 port and reenable my USB ports.

    All is well now.

Thanks to you all for your replies!

    Regards!

Does your computer have a PS/2 port (either blue (keyboard) or green (mouse)?

If so -- and assuming that you don't have a spare PS/2 mouse or keyboard lying around (doesn't everyone?) -- buy one ($12.24, free shipping) or buy a USB to PS/2 adapter ($4.10, free shipping). Other than the color, I don't think there's any difference between a "keyboard" adapter and a "mouse" adapter.

I have the same problem however it was caused by me. I disabled [what I thought] were SOME of the ports due to an error I received stating I did not have enough USB bandwidth available to use my USB Camera/Mic unit....thought if I disabled some of the ports it would help.

Even though I did not disable all of the listed ports, all of them are now disabled...front, PCI Cards, and motherboard ports.

I have PS/2 ports but no PS/2 mouse or keyboard...haven't had those for a couple decades, and don't know of anyone that has those devices any longer.

Anyone know how to reset the hardware configuration without input devices?...maybe theirs a hardware reset of sorts that can be accessed during boot, or maybe in Safe Mode?

    Multiple choice,

    1. update drivers via device manager
    2. delete drivers, re start and re install
    3. system restore

Look around forums via google for additional help ( for me none of them worked so i resorted to system restore which worked)
