when I close task manager after viewing currents programs, the list turns white and closes 5 seconds later. some cases its white and "(not responding)" pops up and takes more time. after that when i open task manager again, it opens as the "Less detail". I just want to know what could be causing the problem. I've tried sfc /scannow and no integrity violation is detected.

thank you

    Hi Romero,

    1. Do you get any error message/code?
    2. Is the issue specific to task manager?

This issue can occur due to viruses or conflict with any third party program.

Here are a few methods which you can follow to resolve the issue:

    Method 1:

    Microsoft Safety Scanner

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

    Method 2:

Step 1: Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode.

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started.

Follow the link below to learn how to do so.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

Step 2: If the issue doesn’t occur in Safe Mode, then perform Clean Boot.

Clean boot: To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts**.** Here is the link for your reference to perform clean boot.

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot"

under more information to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Hope this resolves the issue. If the issue persists, you can write to us and we will be glad to assist you further.

    Hi Romero,

Are you referring to any third party antimalware application/program?

Many third party antivirus/antimalware applications are known to hog computer resources.

You may also check if the issue persists after temporarily disabling any antivirus/antimalware or other security software programs installed on the computer.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Thanks.

    Hi Romero,

Service Host (Svchost.exe) is a process on your computer that hosts, or contains, other individual services that Windows uses to perform various functions. For example, Windows Defender uses a service that is hosted by a svchost.exe process.

There can be multiple instances of svchost.exe running on your computer, with each instance containing different services. One instance of svchost.exe might host a single service for a program, and another instance might host several services related to Windows and this causes the high CPU usage. You can use Task Manager to view which services are running under each instance of svchost.exe.

    Thanks.

    You mean These (http://sdrv.ms/14HQwx1)

another thing start up the disk usage is antimal service, usually it comes first and goes high as well

I full scanned with both the program and forefront which each took 6 hours but nothing was found. however the 2nd step sped up the delay of the white task manager. what I also noticed is that on normal startup, my disk usage is maxed out for about 5 minutes which the one "oranged" is "service host: local service" with 7MB or even higher used after that or if I leave task manager on for about a minute, it give a quick whiteout then closes as it should. the only time I can remember that used up a lot of disk usage was AVG's cache to optimize realtime scan as I worked, which was why I changed to forefront. is there a reason that service host local service is using so much. is it another cache issue but with forefront?
