When I was in "Safe Mode" doing an MSE Full scan I was very curious what this mode was used for.

Computer Setup is when you boot up into F10 in Windows xp, Thanks again!

That's not something in XP. Must be something with your computer manufacturer. XP only recognizes F8...Windows Advanced Options Menu.****My computer guy uses this Auslogics in Safe Mode and says it's way more effective than the MS version?  You think not?  What is your experience if you don't mind me asking?

I've been using Windows since 3.1. I used to buy into all that stuff and would run Diskeeper, O&O Defrag, PerfectDisk, etc. Those where the kings a while back. It slowly dawned on me that this stuff isn't doing much. At least anything I could notice. It might have helped a bit when disk drives where 5400 RPM and 40GB total, but today? Try it yourself. Let your partitions defrag. Run a disk benchmark program before and after the built in defragger and do it again with Auslogics. See if there's a difference and by how much. If you're going to do it, I want real proof. Use a screen capture program and post all your steps on You Tube.

BTW, the defragger in XP is made by Diskeeper. It is Diskeeper...."Diskeeper lite".

Oh, and just to let you in on a little secret...I defrag my OS drive(3GB) about once or twice a year. If that. I never even touch the rest of my 1TB drive.

*So I take it a person needs advanced knowledge to sue it or can I run it and follow prompts?*You need advanced knowledge.

I am also interested in any other stuff I can do to improve system speed and keep clean using SAFE MODE or COMPUTER SETUP.

Limit the number of programs you install that has stuff running all the time. To clean, use Disk Cleanup, Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Disk Cleanup, but if you use Internet Explorer, leave temp internet files alone or you will have to download content.again. Also, don't use compress old files.

Do not use any 3rd party cleaning programs and the like that claim to boost performance. It's all snake oil.

There is no need to be in safe mode while doing the above and I don't know what mean by computer setup.

Also I ran a Auslogics Disk Defrag in Safe Mode and when I went back to look at the history it did not record that I performed it?

You will need to ask Auslogics regarding technical support questions. I highly doubt using a 3rd party defrag program will produce any discernible difference than the built in defragmenter. You may want to uninstall it.

From A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP...

"Debugging Mode: This option turns on debug mode in Windows. Debugging information can be sent across a serial cable to another computer that is running a debugger. This mode is configured to use COM2."

    Hi,

Debugging Mode is used to troubleshoot various device drivers, Windows services, applications, etc. Many IT Professionals and System Administrators use this quite often when trying to analyze an issue on their workstations and or servers.

    Regards,

    Patrick
