Unable to scan in Canon MF4690

Original title: Windows 8 Canon MF4690 Scanning Incompatibility Issue

I cannot scan with my Canon MF 4690 either.  It was hard to get it to print, but finally it does.  It acts like it is going to scan, but like the other questioners, it never gets the job done.  I have gotten a half page scanned before it goes into a loop and has to be closed with Task Manager.  I have Windows 8 and the latest Windows 8 64 bit driver installed.

    Hi,

I would suggest you uninstall all the Canon products and drivers installed from the computer and then install the latest drivers from Canon website and check if that helps.

    1. Uninstall the Printer driver.
    •  Physically disconnect your Canon multifunction printer from your computer.

     - Press the Windows key and the R key together so that it opens the Run prompt.

    -  Type devmgmt.msc to open Device manager.

    •  Locate the scanner, right-click on it and select properties.
    •  On the driver tab, click on uninstall to uninstall the driver.

    -  Restart the computer.

    2.  Uninstall all the Canon products installed on the computer.

     -  Press the Windows key and the R key together so that it opens the Run prompt.

     - Type appwiz.cpl and hit enter.

    -  Select Canon products and click on uninstall.

    1. Download and install the latest drivers from

    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_series/imageclass_mf4690#DriversAndSoftware

If the issue persists after reinstallation of drivers, please do get in touch with Canon Support.

Thank you for your quick response.

I tried reinstalling the driver as you suggested.  This did not help.

I then called Canon Customer support.  The rep spent 40 minutes on the phone with me trying various maneuvers including disabling the firewall, removing some elements from the windows_32 folder, etc. none of which helped.  She finally gave up and said that it is not a Canon problem.  According to her, they are expecting an update to Windows 8 to deal with this problem.

So I'm reduced to scanning to a thumb drive inserted in the MF4690 and then transferring the file to my computer.

The problem is, when I try to scan directly to my computer, neither Windows Fax and Scan nor the Canon software can establish a connection with the scanner.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks again for your quick response.
