how do i check if a port is input or output? (HDMI)

I want to play PS3 on my laptop because of a lack of a television set, but im not sure if my hdmi is both input and output. I really doubt it is input capable, but how do i check?

. What is the make and model of your laptop?

The HDMI cable carries both the audio as well as the video signals. Both the ends of the cable act as the Input and Output.

I would suggest you to connect the HDMI cable to your laptop HDMI port to check it is connected properly.

I would also suggest you to contact Sony Support from the link for assistance in getting the PS3 to display on a Laptop using a HDMI cable:
