JAVA ISSUES & COMPATABILITY WHEN USING WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM 32 BIT

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 - 32 bit, and currently have JAVA V7 Update 25 installed.   Believe this JAVA Version came by way of an update.

JAVA 7 appears to create problems when running Windows Vista.  I observe features of my system that no longer work correctly (such as being able to reply to E-mail when using webmail), and it seems to be JAVA related.  I've researched several community websites and it appears there are known compatability issues with JAVA and Windows Vista.  but I'm not clear exactly what the issues are.  I have the following questions......

Why won't the latest version of JAVA (V7 Update 25) run correctly with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit?   When you go to java.com, this is the Version you get by default.   The user is only asked if there is a "Windows OS" - not which Windows they are using.

Is it true that only JAVA Version 6 works correctly with Vista?   If so - what about the security vulnerabilites when using a "pre Version 7" JAVA?

If using JAVA Version 6 is the solution to this, where would I go to download a clean copy?  Additionally, would I look for JAVA V6 Update 43, or some other version?

I can't be the only one who has this problem, and would appreciate any information other users can provide.

Thanks, Jim

Thank you very much for this info.  Never thought to try Enhanced Mail.  Will do that now.

Using Enhanced Webmail instead of Classic Webmail works!

    Thanks for your help.

I have had two or three conversation with Cox help and they never told me this simple solution, may be they wanted me to sign up for help that costs money.

    Thanks again.

I am sorry but why does a mail service even use a Java Applet

Yahoo, Mynet, Outlook, Gmail none of them do that

Java 7 update 25 works fine with Vista

if you are having problems with COX webmail, it's their fault

    Also try this

    Accessing Cox WebMail

To access Enhanced WebMail, complete the following steps.

    1. Visit Cox.com.
    2. Click the Sign in to WebMail link.
    3. Enter the Cox.net User ID and Password.
    4. Select the Enhanced WebMail radio button, then click the Sign In button.

I started having similar problems when I loaded JAVA 7.25.  I can read the emails on COX's webmail account but can not compose, reply or forward the emails.  It gives me messages like 'unable to initialize appletes'.  Tried talking to COX help but they were no help.  They told me to talk to people who charge $50 min. to help me.

    Any ideas?

    Thanx.

    Raj
