    Hi,

Please answer the following questions to help us understand the issue better.

    1.      What happens when you try to run a CD/DVD on the LG device? Do you get any error message?

    2.      Is the issue specific to any particular CD/DVD?

    3.      What is the make and model of the computer?

I would suggest you to run the hardware and devices troubleshooter and check for the reason behind the issue.

Follow these steps to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

    a.        Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.

    b.        Select Troubleshooting.

    c.        Select View all on the top left corner.

    d.        Run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

I would suggest you to update the chipset drivers from manufacturer’s website.

Than install the firmware update released by LG and check. Here is the link for your reference.

Let us know about the results of the steps provided above. We would be happy to help you further.

Super idea! I guess I was depending on Windows Media file to kick in but it did not. As soon as I downloaded and installed VLC the DVD drive took off...amazing! Now my only concern is whether I should have installed the 64 bit (my computer is 64 bit) rather than the 32 bit? It's working and that was the primary problem. Thanks for helping an older non techie!

Yes, if you have a 64-bit system it would be best

if you installed the 64-bit version of VLC.

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the information and directions. I did try all these things and still no response. I tried the subsequent suggestion to install a media player such as VLC and the installation took off like a dream and is working fine. Thanks again for helping out!

Maybe you need software that can play a DVD?

    See the following article:

How to Play DVDs in Windows 8

    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-play-dvds-in-windows-8.html

Maybe the freeware VLC Media Player would

    be worth a try:

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System

Restore point before installing software or updates)

    VLC Media Player (32-bit Version)

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc_32/

    (runs on XP/Vista/7/8)

(the filename to download is : vlc-2.0.8-win32.exe)

    VLC Media Player (64-bit Version)
