usb driver stopped working

I have a USB controller driver that is showing up as an "unknown device".  When I right click and choose properties it tells me that the driver provider is Microsoft - driver date is: 6/21/2006 - driver version is: 6.1.7601.17586 - digital signer is: Microsoft Windows.  I am running windows 7 on a 64 bit desktop.  Looking at driver details, the driver is: usbfilter.sys - provider is Advanced Micro Devices Inc. - file version: 1.0.7

Under General Info: device type: USB controller - Manufacturer: (Standard USB Host Controller) - Location: Port_#0003.HUB_#0006 - device status: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43).  How can I get this driver working again?  I tried update online, and searched for the driver, but I cannot locate it.  Do I need to reinstall Windows 7?

Thanks

Hello,

Reinstalling Windows, even a Repair Install, is an 'if all else fails' solution. Try this Fix It from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Windows_USB_diagnostics . If that doesn't work, try this second one: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/ .

Let me know if these fix the issue for you.

Regards,

BearPup

I had to reload Windows 7 and found out that the problem was a USB port to my printer.  I changed the port and the driver reloaded and all seems well now.  Thanks much for your help.
