"The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSVCR100.dll is not a valid Windows Image. " How can I fix this or delete this?

I have an Dell Inspiron1000 running XP Pro. I'm trying to finish clean and install myself, and trying unsuccessfully to install drivers, and now I receive this message after start up: "The app or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSVCR100.dll" is not a valid Windows image" error. How can I fix this or delete it? I have not been able to install drivers or driver updates. Device Manager can't find any of the drivers I've requested. I have no tech knowledge at all. I want to learn to fix this so I don't have to bug my son or nephews. I'm not sure if this is the place for this question or what the problem is. It seemed to happen after auto update or IE8 browser update, but I'm not even sure of that.

    While MSVCR100.dll is a Microsoft file, it does not come with Windows XP. Some software you installed or Dell added it,

    Let me look at your installed programs by running MiniToolBox. When you run it, check List Installed Programs and click Go. Paste the results in your next reply.

    Also, what to you mean by this - "Device Manager can't find any of the drivers I've requested"?

    You normally open device manager, click the device with the yellow question mark and update (or is it install when it has a yellow exclamation mark? I forget) driver. Then browse to the folder with the .inf file and driver files and select the .inf file.

    What disk did you use to install XP or did you install from a recovery partition?

    What Service Pack are you currently running?

    Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010  x86 Redistributable - 10.0.40219 (Version: 10.0.40219) and reinstall from here. Then reboot and see if the error is still there.

    Is there a reason that you need it? Did you install it intentionally or did some other setup program install it?

    Hello again 10crackers, I hope you are still willing to help, and I'd fully understand if you ran in the other direction. This is the computer that I've had problems with. As I previously proved, I know absolutely nothing about what it is that I'm doing. It's my first attempt at an clean and install. Here are the correct list you had requested, and thank you for your assistance. I really appreciate it. Here they are:                        .......................Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (X86)

    I also included error reports. I know you did not ask for it,  but I'm hoping it helps, and I mean't that I've tried to update a driver, and I'm almost positive I was not doing it correctly, I when I've attempted it, the wizard never is able to locate the driver, and I also am unable to locate the driver. I know I downloaded some from Dell. I think I was finally able to update the modem or a modem. It still has not resolved my issues.Thank you for your time and assistance. I will do my best to follow your directions.;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

    **** End of log ****

                        You also asked about what I meant about device manager. Perhaps I was not running it correctly, but what I meant is that when I try to update a driver, the wizard is not able to locate the driver, and I don't know which one it should be either. It's the blind leading the blind. I have no clue as to what I'm doing. This is all new to me, and I'm surely making mistakes. I did not know about the yellow question mark, so I am sure I've made mistakes. The disc is an Windows XP Pro SP3. I bought the Dell Inspiron1000 at a yard sale, as well as the Windows disc, but from two different yard sales. The Dell originally had XP Home. A friend installed the disc XP Pro for me months ago. Dell told me they would not help me, because I installed a different program. I didn;t know I could not do that. At any rate I'm stuck now with what I have, and unable to get things to work right. I also most likely have picked up a virus or two, as I have downloaded so many Microsoft updates and Windows Updates, that I don;'t think I can count that high. I beleive I am beyond help, and I appreciate any that you are willing to offer me. I will try my best to follow instructions. If you decide to tell me to jump in a lake, I will understand. I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to help me, as I am completely clueless as to what I am doing. I have no real knowledge but I am willing to learn, and I am giving it a go. I don't know if I answered all your questions, I think I have installed one driver, and how I accomplished this, I am not sure. But I think I did it, but it has not solved the dll problem, nor some other problems I've been having. Again, thank you very much for your help. I will continue to try and fix, oh \*\*\*\*. I just realized, that I ran the mini tool box, on this computer, and not the dell 1000. I am truly an idiot. I'm sorry, let me go onto that other laptop.
