Saved my unfinished project, closed the file - when I went back to open it, my videos and music no longer play.

I have been working on a Movie Maker project all afternoon.  It is not finished.  I have been clicking the save button every time and did so again before I closed it for the night.  When I went back to open the file again to resume working on it, the music and videos are no longer in the file.  I haven't moved anything so they should be there.  It is very frustrating since I spent hours on this and will now have to start almost from scratch (the pictures are still there).  How can I get the computer to save everything?  I realize that it is a recipe and it is drawing from different areas where the info is stored, but if I haven't changed any of those things, why is my file messed up?!?

    Hello,

Thank you for your cooperation and patience. Let's see what we can do about it. Since you've already created your movie and the only issue is saving it, what you can do to resolve this is to download and install the latest version of Windows Movie Maker. Please refer to the link below to download it.

    **Windows Movie Maker 2012**

    Hi RaeleneHouck,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I understand that you're having issues with the saved project in Movie Maker. To determine the possible cause of this issue, please provide us the following information below:

    • You said that you've been clicking the save button everytime; may I know the exact steps on how you saved your project?
    • Do you see any items/files on the storyboard? If yes, do you receive any error messages when you double click on the files?
    • Where did you save the files/items that you have included in your project?

We look forward to your response.

    Thank you.

    Hi Raelene,

Thank you for the additional information. You were not able to answer the second question that I asked regarding what happens when you double click on the files. So can you confirm if you get a message when you double click on the videos? If yes, please specify.

In addition, we request you to create a new project then use the same videos and pictures. Afterwhich, please get back to us and inform us of the results after creating a new project using the same files so that we can check if you'd also encounter the same issue.

    Regards.

Nothing happens when you double click on the videos.  The project will play through them with a blank screen.  I don't think it is the files that are the problem.  The problem is something to do with saving an unfinished project.  I had this happen before.  Seems like unless you finish the project in one sitting, there is no coming back to it.

    Thank you.

I have clicked the blue button in the upper left, scrolled down to "save project as" and saved it as 2012.  I clicked the little save button at the top every so often (the button that looks like a computer disk).  My pictures are still on the storyboard.  Where the videos are supposed to be, there is an empty filmstrip.  The music says it is still there, but it will not play.  The file is saved in my videos as an .wlmp file.
