PS/2 Keyboard not working Windows 8

I'm using Windows 8 Pro and have a PS/2 keyboard which was bundled with my Windows Vista PC (since then i bought a new computer and wish to use that keyboard since it is a US layout and not the Canadian Bilingual), but when i plug it in it doesn't respond to anything, but when the computer turns on a light lits up where the number lock thing is at. I had tried this solution. InHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt,, edit the Startvalue and set it to a hex or decimal value of 1.  But with it plugged in the device manger it(the keyboard option)  doesn't pop up. It'S like if my whole computer does not recognize it at all. Does anyone know if it's a problem with the keyboard or is it my computer.

I actually did fixed the problem, it seems that after edited,  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042pr, it did solve the problem after i had both the PS/2 keyboard and my USB Keyboard plugged it at once, and that some how solved my problem.

    Hi Jase,

Older adapters just connect the wiring from a PS/2 socket into the wiring on the USB side. There are no drivers on these adapters and often work well on older computers.  Newer computers often require a PS/2 to USB converter.  These converters have a chip inside which translates the USB signal into PS/2.  These converters do need drivers and it will be automatically installed on Windows 8.

Check if the PS/2 keyboard is getting detected in the Device Manager.

    a.         Open device manager, type devmgmt.msc in start search box and hit Enter

    b.         Expand Keyboard and check if it detected.

If it is getting detected, then check for any error message.

You may first try running the hardware troubleshooter.

    Follow these steps:

    a)    Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

    b)    Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

    c)    Click hardware and sound and run the hardware and device troubleshooter.

If you want to change the keyboard layout, refer to this article:
