    Hi Jean,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From your issue description I understand that you want to check the ink level in windows 8 computer for HP Office Jet 6500.

To check the ink level you can follow these steps:

If your printer produces blurry, faint, or incomplete printouts, it might be low on ink or toner.

Many printers provide status about ink or toner levels directly on the device. To find out, refer to your owner's manual or go to the printer manufacturer's website.

You can refer to this links:

Some printers can inform Windows about how much ink or toner is remaining. Here's how to check:

    a) Press” Windows + w” key to open charms bar with settings option.

    b) Type device in the search field

    c) Select device and printer

    d) Click a printer.

If the printer is designed to provide ink or toner status, the information should appear in the status area at the bottom of Devices and Printers.

You can also double-click a printer to see more information about that printer.

That's because HP doesn't provide full feature software for Win8 or Win7, it uses the built in windows driver that doesn't have the same options as the full HP feature software. So you are not going to get any ink level indications.

The last full feature software from HP for this printer was under WinXp

If it's wireless or networked, just enter the IP address in your browser.

That should bring up a page similar to this:

Mike, I followed your advice for my HP Photosmart 8150, downloading and running both the driver and the utility. After all of that, I got a window telling me that ink level info is not available (see attached). Maybe my printer is just too old to play nice with Windows 8.

Followed all of Jeevan Yadav's instructions and I could not find anyplace to see ink levels. Guess this is just one more problem with Windows 8.
