Computer continually restarts after plugging in hdmi cord

It seems like my pc is restarting the moment I connect it to a monitor via hdmi. This has happened on multiple monitors and multiple cables.

I say it's restarting, but I'm really not even sure of that. I plug an old-fashioned PC-inupt cable (the old fashioned one with all the prongs) into a monitor and everything appears just fine. the moment I connect the pc to something (either the same monitor or a different one) with an hdmi cable, the screen blacks out until I remove the hdmi connection, and via the pc input cord, I'll see the pc booting up after a few minutes.

I've looked it up, and all answers say to update the graphics driver, which I did, but I had some troubles. I was able to download the newest driver, but I kept getting a "Cannot install message" when I tried installing it. After selecting the "do not allow" button when asked if nvidia could make changes to my pc, then allowing it on a subsequent attempt, it finally worked. Not sure if that's related in any way. Either way, my problem was not solved by installing it.

Windows is able to see that a problem is arising, and says it has solutions, but when I ask to see the solutions, it says to try again later.

I managed to get this out of it (it`s all gibberish to me):

*Edit: To give some more background as to how this happened, my wife had been looking at sinks on the Home Depot website, and just left the pc to go to bed (nothing out of the ordinary). The next morning, the computer wouldn`t respond, and the monitor remained black, until I plugged it into a different monitor with the old fashioned outlet and plug

    Hi Devin,

What is the make and model of the computer

You are right, code 116 refers to an issue with the graphics card. Nvlddmkm.sys is a Nvidia graphics card error.

I would suggest you to enable low resolution mode using the HDMI cable.

    Enable Low Resolution Video(640x480)

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

You may try to uninstall the graphics card and reinstall it from the manufacturer's website and check the issue.

    http://www.nvidia.in/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If that does not help, I would suggest you to get in touch with the Nvidia support:

    http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html

Let us know if this helps.
