convert negative photograph image to positive

I have copied lots of negatives using my camera over a light-box, but I don't have software to convert them to positive. I would have thought that Essentials photo album editor would have been able to do that. Any suggestions from the wise men and women out there in the wide world?

    =================================

    Try Windows Paint...

    For Vista and earlier...

Open the photo in Windows Paint and go to...

    Image / Invert Colors...or just type...Ctrl+I.

    Windows 7...

Right click the photo in Win 7 Paint and a menu

will launch that has the Invert Color option.

Another possibility would be the freeware IrfanView...

it has an option for reversing a negative.

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System

Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Download IrfanView

    http://majorgeeks.com/IrfanView_d4253.html

    (filename  :  iview436_setup.exe)

(uncheck the box if you do not want Google Chrome)

    Get the plug-ins too...

    IrfanView Plug-ins

    http://majorgeeks.com/IrfanView_PlugIns_d4908.html

    (filename  :  irfanview_plugins_436_setup.exe)

After installing IrfanView...open your scanned negative

in the program and go to...Image / Negative...

You will have to go to...File / Save...to save your edited

    version of the photo.

In IrfanView...it is also possible to invert negatives

in a Batch. For info...Open IrfanView Help and search

    for, "Batch Conversion/Rename"

"I have copied lots of negatives using my camera over a light-box, but I don't have software to convert them to positive."

The film negatives have a orange mask, which must be taken away. Afet that, the negative may be converted to positive. And even, when positive, it must be adjusted (in photo editting software) to look "good".

Th orange mask is not static all over the negative, and there are actually two masks. So it is impossible to eliminate these with a simple photo editting commands.

The operation to convert a negative to positive is very easy compared to elimination of mask.

I know that at least following two sotwares can be used to elimate the orange mask:

    1. Vuescan
    2. Adobe Photoshop (manually or using a macro program)

:Yes it is not included as Microsoft update feature of windows 8 and 8.1, you can use Photoshop software, but simply use Picasa 3 software, as one of the most common and simple ways, first download your photos from your camera to your computer by the help of the provided camera cable attachment, download Picasa 3 free software and install, and then:

1)open Picasa, you have an option to get your photos from camera directly through the program.

    1. open the folder containing your downloaded photos, and chose one of your negatives.

3)open the negative picture, and you will see immediately a left pane including several options.

4)click on the forth option green sky shaped, and chose invert colors, that it, enjoy.

    Hello,

Thanks for posting here at Photo Gallery forum. I understand that you want to edit your photos with negative filter to a positive one but we do not have that feature in Photo Gallery. I understand that convenience of having such feature and what I can suggest is to send this as a feedback through this link for our product team.

    Regards,

    Richard
