Windows 8 to 8.1 driver compatibility

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. I noticed that most if not all my drivers and some devices that were working are now not functional. Could the reason be that because the kernel was updated with 8.1 that now device drivers are not working?

The AMD site does not list a Windows 8 driver available for the X1300. Your best bet would be to call AMD directly for their suggestions.

As a cheap alternative, you can get an AMD R6450 for $40 to $50. It is not the most advanced AMD card but unless you are doing gaming, it will do the job nicely. Mine handles Windows 8 well and has no problems with any video.

Hello Microsoft. Im using a laptop dell inspiron 14z 5423. I upgraded it from windows 8 to windows 8.1 and now Im having a problem with my video driver. AMD radeon hybrid. The catalyst is not working so I cannot get it to high performance because the menu for switchable graphics is not working. I think the solution here is to update my driver but I cant find any driver for windows 8.1 Can you please help me. Thanks

I have an older ATI X1300 Pro graphics card in my system.  In the past, I've had to install the Vista drivers in Compatibility mode for it to work with Windows 7 and 8.

After Updating from 8.0 to 8.1 last night, I received the message that the Catalyst Control center is not compatible with Windows 8, and that I need to uninstall and reinstall the latest software.  Since I don't have updated software (it hasn't been updated since Windows Vista), I uninstalled it but didn't try to reinstall.  I was hoping that Windows would use it's own generic driver for it.

After rebooting the PC, I have a black screen with a mouse pointer.  Pushing the power button brings up the login screen real quick as it's shutting down.  Rebooting the PC has the same black screen and mouse pointer unless I force the computer off (same as pulling the power cord, not desired method or recommended).   After doing this, my system comes up normally without any error messages until I shut down, where I'll have the black screen with mouse pointer again as I boot up the next time.

I'm considering purchasing a more up-to-date video card, but I was curious whether there's some temporary fixes to my issue.

I am facing the same issue with my Dolby Advanced V2 Audio driver. It doesn't seem to work. I've updated to Win 8.1 from Win 8. My Laptop is Lenovo G580 (20150).

Is there any way to fix it?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Jayant
