Unable to add the Windows Fax & Scan feature. Error: "Windows couldn't complete the requested changes: Windows requires a reboot to return the system to it's original state."

Several items failed to install correctly during the upgrade from 8. The only one now needing correction is FAX.  Fax failed to work so I uninstalled modem and Fax and Scan.

Windows 8.1 now reports that the re installation of the Windows Feature/ Print and document services/ Fax and Scan   di not install as follows "Windows couldn't complete the requested changes: Windows requires a reboot to return the system to it's original state."

The external Fax/Voice modem reinstalled OK but failed to cure the problem which lead to me uninstalling the FS module.

I USE THE FAX MODULE TO SEND FAX OVER THE LANDLINE NOT NETWORK!

I have now stopped the restart of my PC after the failure message and FAX appears in Services and Fax and Scan can be found by a search. Under FS/ Tools both the Fax Monitor and Receive a Fax now are greyed out and it does not work from Office 2010 Word nor I can not install a Fax Printer in Devices and Printers

For your information: The 8.1 upgrade stalled after the 4th or maybe 5th restart displaying "Hi" briefly twice then nothing but a flickering HDD light for nearly 2 hours. I decided to power off using the button and on restart continued "just something something"

My Wacom Pen and Touch needed the drivers reinstalling and AMD Catalyst is terminated  shortly after starting but as the are no errors on Computer/ Devices Management I will disable the start of this latter item for the moment.

    Hi Rajesh,

I STILL AM UNABLE TO INSTALL THE WINDOWS COMPONENT THAT PROVIDES A FAX SERVICE, which is the main topic

I think the main topic has been confused by the information regarding other problems that have occurred and I have corrected brought about by the upgade to Win 8.1.  I suppied the information on the basis that one of the other errors may have bearing on the FAX PROBLEM.

    Hi again,

Further to my last post you may care to note that I have had to REINSTALL software associated with my WD MyCloud NAS. This software now seems to function OK

Hi Ragesh,  thanks for the interest.

Results from sfc /scannow are negative. "Windows Resource Protection did not find any violations" So I still have the FAX problem

I have just tried to reinstall the Fax Module without success and with the same message.

The Pen & Touch was really for info only but as you have asked

    1/. My laptop is a Dell 17R model 3721.

2/. The point went to the top left hand corner as soon as "touch" was used although the pen was  OK. There were no error messages

    3/. Sorry, did not check--see 4

4/. Reinstallation of the WACOM drivers did cure the problem. I did remove the device from Programmes and Feature first to be safe

The Wacom Pen & Touch has functioned properly since

    Hi Gatrk,

This type of errors while trying to enable the Windows feature could be due to the missing or corrupted important system files on the computer. Let’s check this by running the SFC Scan and check if that resolves the issue.

    Run an SFC Scan

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

    a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “Q” keys on the keyboard and type “cmd” in the search box.

    b)       Right click on the “Command Prompt” icon from the search results and select “Run as administrator

    c)       On the command prompt window, type the following command, and then press “Enter”

    sfc /scannow

    d)       Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the scan.

Important: It may ask for windows installation DVD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs. Some files saved on your computer might get deleted when fixing corrupted files.

Now, regarding the issue with the Wacom Pen and Touch drivers, I would like to know the following information:

    1)       What is the make and model of your computer?

    2)       What exactly happens when you use the “Pen and Touch” device on the computer? Does it show any error message?

    3)       What is its status shown in the Device Manager?

    4)       Did you try reinstalling the latest drivers for this device?

If not, please uninstall the existing drivers from the computer and then reinstall the latest Windows 8.1 compatible drivers from its computer or device manufacturer’s website. If the latest Windows 8.1 compatible drivers are not yet released or available, then you may try installing the available Windows 8 drivers in its compatibility mode.

To install any drivers or apps in its compatibility mode, you may refer to this article:
