Spotify Sound/Volume lowers automatically when the Microphone is activated

Hi,

Whenever I activate my Microphone on a game such as Counter-Strike (Push-To-Talk) my music volume (Spotify) will automatically decrease from 100-> 13.

The volume also drops when I disconnect from WiFi sporadically (bad internet connection).

For clarification:

I already have this checked in Sound Card settings:

And this is what it looks like when volume decreases (I accidentally moved the slider up one notch when taking SS):

It also happens if I exit Steam/Skype, so those two don't seem to be the problem.. I've tried Googling and I haven't found anything that works so far! Please help!!

    Hi,

Thank you so much for including the links to those screenshots. I really appreciate your efforts.

I would suggest you to change the appropriate Spotify sound settings to allow the applications to take exclusive control of the audio device. For that, you may follow these steps:

    a)       Right click on the speaker icon from the notification area on the Taskbar.

    b)       Click on “Open Volume Mixer”.

    c)       On the Volume Mixer – Speakers window, click on the Spotify application icon.

    d)       Click on “Advanced” tab.

    e)       Select the option “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”.

If that doesn’t help, then try updating the sound card drivers and check if that helps. You may follow these steps for the same.

    Update the Sound Card Drivers

Step 1: Check the Windows updates for any latest driver updates.

Check in Windows updates if any driver updates are available. If so, install the same and check if it helps.

    a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

    b)       Type “Updates” in the search bar and click on “Install optional updates” from the left pane.

    c)       From the “Windows Update” window, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner, to receive a fresh list of updates and then install all the updates listed there.

Step2: Update Driver Software from the Manufacturer’s website:

Go to the Computer or Sound Card manufacturer’s website and search for the latest Windows 8 drivers available for the Sound Card model and then install it by following the instructions given in the website.

Hope this is helpful. Please do get back to us with the troubleshooting results.

Okay, I had the same problem with Realtek audio drivers and fixed it this way.

I'm using Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 with Zalman z3+ tower

    Do this:

    1. Reinstall audio drivers to full
    2. Restart
    3. go to realtek site

    download mathcing audio driver

IMPORTANT: DOWNLOAD THE MATCHING AUDIO DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS U HAVE

the blue bolded drivers no. 1 for 32-bit and no. 2 for 64, it should fix the problem automatically.

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

    1. furthermore, when u install, go in realtek manager and click on the Folder icon on top right and disable front jack panel detection

It should work ,let me know if it helped.

    Kind Regards,

    Bahalor

    Hi,

Thank you so much for replying with the updates.

I would suggest you to check if this is caused by any service/application running on the background of the computer.  This can be done by performing a Clean Boot on the computer.

Perform a Clean Boot and find out which application/service is causing this issue.

A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts and to determine what is causing the problem. Perform a clean boot on the computer by following the steps given in the link:

Follow the steps given in this link to perform a clean boot on the computer. You may please note that performing a clean boot does not fix the actual issue. It just helps us in identifying the root cause of the issue.

After performing a clean boot, you may activate the microphone on the game or create other scenarios where this issue occurred in the past and check if the issue persists. If the issue does not persist, then you may determine which application/service on the computer is causing this issue. This can be done by following the instructions given in the article “How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot” under the section “More information” from the same given link.

Important: After you have finished troubleshooting, refer to the article “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” for Windows 8, given under the section “More Information” to reset the computer to start as usual from the above link.

Hope this resolves the issue. Please do get back to us with the troubleshooting result.

    Hi thanks for the response,

On the volume mixer the Spotify icon isn't clickable: http://i.imgur.com/VduFrop.png

If I click on the Speakers icon it takes me to  my speaker options again. Now I've checked off this box here:

    http://i.imgur.com/YQfK1YO.png

It was unchecked before, but as you can see in the first screenshot the volume has just lowered itself again! I've also tried checking/unchecking the "give exclusive mode applications priority" box but it doesn't seem to solve the problem either.

Also I've updated my sound card drivers directly from dell.com, and I've installed all Windows Updates.

Here are my playback settings on Spotify if they even matter: http://i.imgur.com/BDlE3tI.png
