SkyDrive Desktop App on Windows 8.1

Typical Microsoft!!

I upgraded my computer from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 and got the typical Microsoft surprise. With 8.0 I could easily move between my personal SkyDrive account and my 99.00 dollar a year PAID!! Office 365 SkyDrive account through the SkyDrive Desktop App and I loved it! Now the Microsoft surprise...I can't do that anymore!!! I can only log into the personal SkyDrive account and my only option for the Office 365 SkyDrive account is the skydrive.com.

WAY TO GO MICROSOFT!!!!!

So my question is: Is there plans in the works to bring this feature back or are we just screwed?

**** I would think how modern software is now we would have the ability to log onto and view multiple SkyDrive accounts simultaneously but then again that's probably radical thinking or wishful thinking on my part.

Hopefully one day Microsoft will get it right.

    Hi,

In Windows 8, SkyDrive was a separate app. Users were able to manage it with different accounts. In Windows 8.1, SkyDrive along with all the enhanced feature is integrated to the operating system. So, it’s design in such a manner.

    For reference: http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2013/10/15/skydrive-and-windows-8-1.aspx

Please feel free to ask if you have any other query on Windows.

Have you tried installing and using SkyDrive Pro (the desktop app that connects to Office 365)?

Thanks for the reply but seeing the skydrive icon is not the problem. Let me try to clarify the problem. I have the normal default 7 gig skydrive like everyone does and my company has Office 365 which as you know allows 5 users and 20 gig of shared skydrive space. I am not the main user account on Office 365 but my account user name is the same as my private account user name which is the same account user name for windows 8.1 on my laptop. From what I can tell windows 8.1 defaults to your personal skydrive account and will not link to the office 365 skydrive. My only option to access the office 365 account skydrive is through skydrive.com and I have to log in as the master account holder.

I find this to be completely ridiculous. Microsoft wants you to buy office 365 as a subscription but they want to limit you on how you can access it. Microsoft can give you ten times the skydrive space but what good is it if all five users cannot access it through their own accounts?

As I stated in my original post, the skydrive, regardless if it's your personal account or the office 365 account, it should work like any drive on your system and you should have the ability to see them and access them seamlessly just like accessing your c: or d: drives.

    Try this,

    Go to desktop mode,

    Open This PC

    Go To C drive

    Open Users Folder

    Open your user folder

You should see the skydrive desktop folder

    Add it to your favorites.

    I hope it helps!

I was puzzled at the beginning not seeing the skydrive icon on the favorites, somehow update removes it from the desktop folder favorites.

    All the best,

    Kopalay

It doesn't work well at all like it used to. Some of my applications have trouble opening the files as skydrive has them locked down. It used to work seamlessly and now I am forced to use a full-screen windows 8 app that I certainly don't want to use on my 27" monitor; and poof, now my other apps can't access my files.

This is my home PC I'm certainly fine with the entirety of my skydrive being stored on my pc so that I can access my files instantly.
