Windows 8 won't recognize my headphones, or play sound from them.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Here is the problem: I got home one day, after buying some new earphones, and plugged them in to my iPod. Perfect, played the sound, didn't have any problems at all. The problems started when I plugged it in to my laptop. It restarted, to install updates and, when it was finished, I plugged in the earphones and clicked 'play' on a YouTube video.

Needless to say, no sound came out. I unplugged it and plugged it in again. Still nothing. I unplugged and tried my speakers, they work fine.

I looked at my playback devices in sound, and noticed that my earphones didn't show up, and my speakers say only 'speakers', not 'speakers/headphones' or anything like that, but it's always been like that, so I didn't pay much attention. I selected "show disabled devices" and Communication Headphones showed up, set as Default Communication Device.

Following the advice on the internet, I selected "Speakers" and made them default to everything and the headphones showed as ready. Still no sound. Downloaded an updated driver for the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, still nothing, except my speakers now showing up as "Speakers/HP", which had never happened before.

I right clicked the speaker icon on the taskbar, selected Volume Control Options and ticked "All devices currently playing sound" and then "Speakers/HP" and "Communication Headphones". Still nothing.

When I go into the AMD VISION Engine Control Center, it tells me my display does not allow audio playback, even though my speakers work fine when the earphones are unplugged and I haven't even touched anything regarding display. I am also not connected to any other display device, such as a TV. My computer is as it was when I left it.

For any interested in helping, I am using a PC Notebool HP ENVY m6-1154sp, running Windows 8 64bits. Also, no earphones work, now, even though my previous ones worked fine (well, brokenly fine, but still) just two hours ago.

Please help, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

    1.    Is the issue occurring only when you playback video in YouTube?

    2.    Are you able to listen to the audio files saved on the computer?

We really appreciate your effort to resolve the issue.

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to run the Playing Audio troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    a) Press Windows key + W key on your desktop.

    b) Write Troubleshooting in the search box on the upper right hand corner.

    c) Select the Troubleshooting option obtained after the search.

    d) Select View All option from the left panel.

    e) Select Playing Audio option.

    f) Click on Next to perform the Playing Audio troubleshooter.

    Method 2:

Uninstall the Sound card drivers and reinstall

Follow the steps to uninstall the Sound card drivers and in-built speaker drivers.

    a.       Press Windows Key + X and then click Device Manger.

    b.      Search for Sound, Video and Game Controllers and expand it.

    c.       Right on the soundcard driver and select uninstall.

You can logon to the computer manufacturer website and install the latest driver for the computer.

    Hi,

    1.    Do you know the kb number of the updates?

    2.    Do you get any error message when you try to install the updates?

I suggest you to try the following steps and check if it helps.

This issue normally occurs when there is driver conflicts. Let’s analyze and identify the cause of the issue.

Perform the steps provided and check.

Method 1: Audio troubleshooterRun the audio troubleshooter and update the audio drivers to the latest from the manufacturer website.

    No sound in Windows

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/no-sound-help#no-sound=windows-8&v1h=win8tab1&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1

    Method 2:

If the issue still persists, you may download the driver and install in Windows 7 compatibility mode. It seems we do not have direct drivers available for Windows 8.

    a. Locate the executable file (.exe file) for the driver installation program.

    b. Right-click the file, and then click Properties.

    c. In the Package Name Properties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab.

    d. Click to select the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, click Windows 7 with which it is compatible with in the Run this program in compatibility mode for list, and then click OK.

    e. Double-click the executable file to start the installation program.

    Method 3:

You can also run the Windows update troubleshooter and check.

Follow these steps to run Windows Update troubleshooter.

    a. Press Windows key + W and type **troubleshooting.**b. Select **Troubleshooting.**c. Select View All on the top left corner.
